The Department

The Politics department at Simon Balle school consists of experienced teachers who seek to encourage a passion for the subject in the students who pursue the course.  The success of the department in doing this can be seen in the retention rates between AS and A2, even those students who chose Politics as a fourth AS in Year 12 often stay on into Year 13.

Andrew Grantham, Head of Department, teaches elements of both AS and A2 Government & Politics.  For the AS course he teaches about ideology and political parties, pressure groups, Parliament and the judiciary and civil liberties.  At A2, American politics, he teaches the components on political parties, pressure groups, the Constitution and Congress.

Mike Moss, Deputy Head Teacher of the school teaches on the AS course about British politics.  He concentrates on democracy and political participation, electoral systems, the British Constitution and the Prime Minister and executive.

Jen Groves, who also teaches at Presdales School, teaches on the A2 course in American politics.  Her focus is racial and ethnic politics, electoral systems, the Presidency and the judiciary and civil liberties.
